First, Ableton Orchestral Strings offers a comprehensive selection of naturally rich and dynamic string instruments. Then use solo violin and ensemble, viola, cello and double bass, all recorded in their natural positions within the orchestra, with a number of articulations.

The making of orchestral strings

SONiVOX is the originator of Orchestral Strings. The Boston Pops, the Boston Ballet Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra recorded its samples with the help of classical musicians. Also the recordings took place in the Futura Productions studios in Roslindale, Massachusetts, a converted Masonic Temple that functions as a state-of-the-art recording facility. All while preserving the acoustic characteristics of a 19th century recital hall. SONiVOX chose Futura for its unique acoustic character.

In this respect the room is small enough to give an impression of intimacy. But large enough to accommodate the implied presence of a full orchestra. Futura's acoustic signature thus adds a distinctly authentic flavor to Ableton Orchestral Strings. Emmy Award-winning engineer Antonio Oliart and RIAA Award-winning engineer John Bono, designed these sessions with executive producer Jennifer Hruska, who has over twenty years of experience in sound development.

Main characteristics

• All instruments are meticulously multi-sampled in a variety of speeds and articulations.
• All instruments are seamlessly integrated into the Ableton Live workflow. The instruments are loaded via Simpler, which is included with Live.
• Also the instruments take advantage of SmartPriming, Live's new resource-saving sampling engine, allowing users to work with an impressive number of instruments in their compositions.
• Finally, it includes special rack versions of each instrument, with all joints switchable via a single real-time macro control for maximum playability.
