The making of orchestral brass instruments

SONiVOX is the originator of Orchestral Brass. The Boston Pops, the Boston Ballet Orchestra and the Boston Symphony Orchestra recorded its samples with the help of classical musicians. Also the recordings took place in the Futura Productions studios in Roslindale, Massachusetts, a converted Masonic Temple that functions as a state-of-the-art recording facility. All while preserving the acoustic characteristics of a 19th century recital hall. SONiVOX chose Futura for its unique acoustic character.

The room is small enough to give an impression of intimacy. But large enough to accommodate the implied presence of a full orchestra. Futura's acoustic signature adds a distinctly authentic flavor to Ableton Orchestral Brass. Emmy Award-winning engineer Antonio Oliart and RIAA Award-winning engineer John Bono, designed these sessions with executive producer Jennifer Hruska, who has over twenty years of experience in soundware development.

• All instruments are seamlessly integrated into the Ableton Live workflow. The instruments are loaded via Simpler, which is included with Live.
• All instruments take advantage of SmartPriming, Live's new resource-efficient sampling engine, allowing users to work with an impressive number of instruments in their compositions.
• Includes special rack versions of each instrument, with all joints switchable via a single real-time macro control for maximum playability.

What is SmartPriming?

To begin with, using large libraries of sampled instruments can quickly consume valuable computer resources and slow down the creative process. Then Ableton Live 7 introduced SmartPriming. This is a new resource-saving sample reading technology. It allows users of large sample libraries, such as Ableton's Orchestral Brass, to use multiple instruments in their compositions.

Due to the tight integration of Simpler and Sampler with Ableton Live, SmartPriming automatically reassigns resources in real time. From where they are no longer needed to where they are, without interrupting the workflow. Live knows how many resources are needed to reproduce that instrument. In addition, Live unloads any unused samples to open up the resources of the instrument as the composer decides to play.

Essentially, SmartPriming is an under-the-hood technology that allows Live users to make the most of their computer's resources. So you can enjoy the realism and expressiveness provided by professional multisampled instruments without overloading your cpu.
