Harmonic key software

Harmonic key software for the analysis of your audio files. Keyfinder is more accurate than DJ software, you will determine the key of your tracks. Moreover with the conversion table, you will replace the tags by the camelot keys (1A, 2A, etc). Finally, the wheel of camelot will tell you if the pieces are compatible with each other.

This harmonic key software is an open source key detection tool, for DJs interested in harmonic and tonal mixing. It is intended to be very focused: no library management, no track suggestions, no media player. Just a fast and efficient workflow tool. It supports a wide range of codecs with LibAV and writes to metadata tags using TagLib.

The correspondence of the agreements

Consonances between notes lead to strong relationships between chords, some transitions between chords will sound much more concordant than others.

Two songs in the same chord will tend to use all the same notes. They will have the same tonic or root note, so they will almost certainly sound harmonically compatible.

Moving from one key to another with roots separated by a fifth or fourth will also be harmonious. They share all but one note in their respective scales. Moreover, their tonic notes are linked by a perfect consonance.

Parallel songs, i.e. major and minor with the same root (e.g. C major and C minor) share a tonic every third note. They will often be compatible.

The relative keys

There is also the concept of relative key. For every major key, there is a minor key whose scale is composed of the same notes. For example, the chords C major and A minor are both composed of white notes of a piano. The transition from a key to its relative or minor major is also likely to be highly compatible.
