Polytek by Sonic Faction

Polytek by Sonic Faction is a versatile and creative Max for Live instrument combining step sequencing, vocoding and multiband gating, using Analog and Sampler as sound sources.

First of all, Ableton Polytek is an innovative new Max for Live instrument that merges rhythmic and melodic sequencing. You can generate an infinite constellation of funky and enigmatic patterns. Then the "multiband" sequencer triggers Live's analog synthesizer or sampler, whose raw sounds are processed with a full range of built-in processors and effects. From deep tech progressions and ambient dub soundscapes to jerky synth grooves and gritty robotic polyrhythms, Polytek can add a subtly shifting layer of dynamics to any track.

The ergonomics

Polytek's intuitive layout makes sequencing steps easy and fun. The sequencer can be configured to cycle through any number of steps from one to 16. It and is divided into four frequency-split channels, each hosting its own speed and playback direction controls. Simply click on the notes in each row of the Rhythm page and mix the playback parameters between them. You'll get complex evolving polyrhythms. Next, define the note and octave offset for each step in the Melody page. To do this, activate one of the 18 chord shapes to create harmonies.

The routing matrix allows you to select either Analog or Sampler as the sound source, with key controls directly available in the Polytek interface, and Sampler including its own custom sample library. You can choose the source and then route it to the Vocoder or Multiband trigger system, followed by Polytek's resonator bank and physical modeling engine. The resonators add harmonics and filtering, while the physical modeling section simulates the sound effect of strings, pipes, membranes and more.

Polytek also includes an arsenal of effect modules. These include Reverb, Saturator, Delay, Auto Pan and Chorus. And finally the internal preset system allows effortless saving of rhythmic, melodic and sound design parameters, as well as on-the-fly recall of entire patterns.
